JOB DESCRIPTION: The Division of Public Health is seeking a motivated, independent individual to fill a vacant Marine Resource Specialist I position in Lamoine. This is technical service to assist Marine Resources Scientists in the classification of shellfish harvesting areas in the eastern half of the coast according to the State of Maine Regulations, the National Shellfish Sanitation Program, and the Food and Drug Administration. Specific duties include collection of seawater, stream and shellfish samples from the Penobscot River to the Maine/Canadian border by boat or truck; shoreline surveys to identify pollution sources which involve door to door interviewing of homeowners; computer data entry; data compilation and analysis; and report writing. Other duties include assisting with lab testing and associated lab duties in a microbiology lab, general office and vehicle related duties. Work is performed under general supervision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four (4) years experience and/or education in the compilation and summarization of scientific field and laboratory data.
