A long-time resident of Maine, Jude Valentine completing her BFA at the Maine College of Art before moving to New York in 1989. She received her MFA in Visual Art from Vermont College in 1994. In New York, she held several arts management positions including Assistant Director for The History Center in Ithaca, NY, Curator of Education for the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY and Program Director for the New York State Alliance for Arts Education in Albany, NY. As a consultant with the New York State Council on the Arts, she developed workshops for arts and cultural organizations on program design, publicity/public relations, grant writing/fundraising and board development. From 2005 - 12, she was the program director at the Tides Institute and Museum of Art in Eastport.
In addition to her teaching at UMM, she has taught at the Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY, the Community College of Vermont and the College of the Atlantic. She has also served as a grant review panelist for state arts agencies in New York, Vermont and Maine, and was a public member of the Arts Education Program Committee of the Maine Arts Commission. She has received awards from the Cornell University Council of Creative Arts and Jerome Foundation Fellowship in support of her studio work. In addition to her teaching and studio work, she works with educators to implement residencies and programs in Visual Thinking Strategies.
