Human Subjects Research Review
The University is committed to meeting the highest professional and ethical standards in all human subjects research. The UMM Policy & Procedures for Human Subjects Research stipulates the scope and procedures for reviewing and conducting such research. UMM partners with the University of Southern Maine to provide an Institutional Review Board to review proposed research involving human subjects, based on professional and ethical considerations. The IRB is responsible for ensuring that research protocols meet established criteria for the protection of human subjects. The IRB also can serve as a source of advice on designing studies to minimize risk to research subjects and may monitor the conduct of approved research. All human subjects research sponsored by UMM, or conducted by or under the direction of any UMM employee, student, or agent in connection with his or her institutional responsibilities must be reviewed by the IRB or other designated external IRB.
