"Fun." to Perform Winter Frost Concert at UMM February 4

The band FunSinger songwriter Jess Penner to open

MACHIAS, Maine – The indie pop band Fun will perform at the University of Maine at Machias campus on Saturday, February 4 at 8 p.m. The concert is part of UMM’s Winter Frost celebration.

Named one of MTV’s 11 Artists to Watch in 2012, Fun is a three-piece band hailing from New York City. The group was formed in 2008 by lead singer Nate Ruess, who is joined by Jack Antonoff on guitars and trumpet and Andrew Dost on vocals, piano, drums, and an array of other instruments.

The band’s second album, Some Nights, is set to be released in February 2012 and features the hit single “We Are Young,” which was performed in a December 6, 2011 episode of the TV show “Glee.” That same night the song shot to #1 on iTunes.

Jess PennerDescribed by their record label, Fueled by Ramen, as an “irresistible collection of freewheeling pop songcraft,” Fun has performed with the likes of Relient K, Paramore, Panic! at the Disco, and Janelle Monáe.

Fun will be opened at UMM by Jess Penner, a singer songwriter from Los Angeles.

The Winter Frost concert will take place in the Performing Arts Center and doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for the public and free for UMM students. Tickets will be available at the door or in advance by calling the Office of Student Activities at 255-1245.
