From the President
Welcome to the University of Maine at Machias. We’ve got something really special going on here. Our campus is on the coast halfway between Bar Harbor and Canada, in a wonderful little town of 3,000 people. From my office window, I can look down the hill at the Machias River and a double waterfall. Very cool.
I’ve been the president here for about five years, and I love this job. In my spare time I hang out with my dog, Captain the boxer, and my partner Laurel. Or I read . . . a lot. I did my graduate work in British literature, and I’m often found with my nose buried in a looooooong Victorian novel.
At UMaine-Machias, our faculty and staff are here because they enjoy working at a small college where the lifelong benefits of a strong liberal arts education are firmly grounded in the local natural and social environment. Our students are here because we offer a strong environmental liberal arts education, in a gorgeous coastal setting, at an affordable price. It’s an unbeatable combination.
Come and visit us in Machias, where tradition is strong, diversity is celebrated, and the future is bright!
Dr. Cynthia E. Huggins, President
