Free Screening of A Place at the Table Documentary Oct. 25
MACHIAS, Maine – The Food and Community Series at the University of Maine at Machias will host a screening of the critically acclaimed documentary, A Place at the Table, at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 25, in the Performing Arts Center.
A Place at the Table examines the issue of hunger in the United States through the powerful stories of three people struggling with food insecurity. In the U.S. today, 50 million people—one in four children—don’t know where their next meal is coming from. The film shows how hunger poses serious economic, social, and cultural implications for the nation.
The one-night showing of A Place at the Table is free and open to the public. Donations for Washington County’s food pantries will be accepted at the door. The event is co-sponsored by UMM’s Psychology and Community Studies program and the Washington County Food and Fuel Alliance.
The Food and Community Series aims to bring students and community members together to talk about important issues related to food systems. A book club, film screenings, and panel discussions are planned throughout the year.
