Art Galleries to Exhibit Paintings by Addison Native

Opening reception for Sarah Faragher on February 10

Seaweed and Ledges by Sarah FaragherMACHIAS, ME – The Art Galleries at the University of Maine at Machias will feature the paintings of Addison native Sarah Faragher, February 10 through March 26, in an exhibit titled, Margins of Safety. An opening reception will be held Wednesday, February 10, at 6 p.m.

Faragher was born in Bar Harbor, grew up in Addison, and now calls the Midcoast region her home. An accomplished painter, she is also the owner of Sarah’s Books, a shop of used and rare books, located in Stockton Springs. Faragher received a bachelor of arts in art history from Colby College and a master of arts in liberal studies from the University of Maine.

Margins of Safety, explores the edges of long-familiar landscapes. According to Faragher, a margin can be an edge and the area near it; a margin of safety is the amount allowed beyond what is needed, past a break-even point. Many of the paintings in the exhibit depict landscapes in Washington County and areas around the Penobscot Bay.

An opening reception for Fargher will be held on Wednesday, February 10, from 6 – 8 p.m., providing an opportunity to meet the artist and hear about her work. Light refreshments will be provided.
