002 Erlys and barunnys bolde,
003 Bachelerys and knytys to mende,
004 Sueyerys and 3emen to holde,
005 Knauys and pagys to sende,
006 So parfyt þat aryn to be solde,
007 I prey 3ouw, lordyngys so hende,
008 No yangelyngys 3e mak in þis folde
009 To-day;
010 Als 3e are louely in fas,
011 Set 3ow alle semly in plas,
012 And I xal withoutyn falas
013 Schewe resounus here to 3oure pay.
014 Welthys I welde at my wylle,
015 In word I am knowyn ful wyde,
016 I aue hert and hynd vpon hille,
017 I am gay on grounde for to glyde;
018 Semly þer I syt vpon sille,
019 My wyf and my mené be my syde.
020 I [commaund] 3ow tende my tylle,
021 Or ellys I xal bate 3owre pryde
022 Wyt dynt,
023 And þerfor I warne 3ow infere
024 þat 3e mak neyþer criyng be bere.
025 If 3e do, wythoutyn duere,
026 Strokys at 3ow xal I mynt.
027 Duk Morawd I hot be name,
028 Korteyser lord may be none,
029 Wol fer þan regnyt my fame,
030 To be comly korwnyt from one.
031 I geue gode gyftys with game
032 And saue iche lordyng fro fone,
033 Me bowyn boþe wylde and tame,
034 Queþire so þei rydyn er gone
035 Ore scheppe.
036 I am dowty in dede,
037 I am worthy in wede,
038 I am semly in stede,
039 No weleny to me wyl I kyppe.

040 II. Dam, do now þi wylle
041 þi wyage to fulfylle,
042 To þe wyl I be beyne.
043 For loue I þe pray:
044 Rap þe faste in þi way,
045 And cum home sone ageyne.

046 III. Thorow þe grace of þat ich Kyngk
047 þat formyt vs alle with wenne,
048 I xal me kepyn from fondyng
049 And als from blame and synne
050 With gras.
051 Jhesu, als þou me wrowtys
052 And with woundys sore me bowtys,
053 Saue me fro wykyt thowtys,
054 Jhesu, fayr in fas!

055 IV. Fare wel, my worlych wyf,
056 Fare wel. loue in lond,
057 Fare þou semlyest lyf,
058 Fare þou happy in hond!

059 V. Maydyn so louely and komly of syte,
060 I prey þe for loue þou wyl lystyn to me;
061 To here my resun I prey þe wel tythe,
062 Loue so deryn me most schewe to þe;
063 My loue to þi body is castyn so bryth,
064 My wyl me most aue of þe.
065 þou art louely to leykyn and brythest with ryth,
066 I loue þe in thowt, þou semly of ble,
067 Be name.
068 þou maydyn þat moryst þi merthis with myth,
069 Derne dedys me most do be day and be nyth
070 Be þe worþiest woundyn, wytthest wyt--
071 The soþe tale I telle withoutyn ony blame.

072 VI. My fere so graciouse in gras,
073 Thanc þou xalt auen of me,
074 For þou art louely in fas
075 And þerto bryth berende of ble.
076 Now wyl I makyn solas,
077 For my deryn loue xalt þou be.
078 Kys me now par amour in plas,
079 Als þou art worly to se
080 In syte.
081 Damysel, fayrest to fonde,
082 Als þou art semly to stonde,
083 Rap we vs to wendyn in honde
084 To þi chambyr þat is so louely of lythe.

085 VII. A! I am wondyn in gret dolour,
086 With danger and tene I am bownde.
087 To me þou geue tent par amowr,
088 And lystne quat I sey þis stounde!
089 3on traytowr xal bewrey vs þis oure,
090 I telle þe, semly on grownde;
091 þan xul we aue no socowr,
092 But carys to vs xal be fownde,
093 Iwys.
094 I ne may neuer be fawe
095 Tyl yon traytowr be slaw
096 þat is so rebel in sawe;
097 Sorows mot ay to her kys.

098 VIII. ues w now salyne, be þi fay,
099 þe fol þat dede vs þat tene?

100 IX. A! Now am I mery þis stound,
101 þat che is browt to þat ded,
102 For che suld a wreyd vs on ground,
103 þat ilke old schrewed qued,
104 To sorowe che xuld vs a found--
105 þat adde ben to vs an ewyl red;
106 I care forsoþe is che wownd,
107 And þerfor I am mery to led
108 And gay.
109 amysel, lo[ue]ly of chere,
110 Mak we mery here,
111 For care, wythoutyn duere,
112 Is went awey for ay.

113 X. A! Aue I begotyn þis stownd
114 A schyld so louely of þe,
115 I am in sorows wownd,
116 For care me most fle.
117 I prey þe in welth now wownd,
118 þat fot in syt myth I se.
119 XI. Aa fayr and bryt,
120 Do [it] out of my syt,
121 For thowt I am ny sclawe!

123 þat is my cowmaundement--
124 Fast bry[n]g it of dawe!
125 For al þis lond I wod nowt
126 þat lordys of þis lond ad yt thowt,

128 For serow and care þat we xuld drywe

136 And auyn merth in lond.

138 þer I sytte louely in thowr,

140 For þi wrkyngys þis oure>
141 For þat parfyt tydyng
142 I geue þe allys and bowr,
143 For þou, withoutyn lesyng,
144 Pottyst me fro scham and dolowr.

145 XIII. In to kontré I wyl wend,
146 þer to plete boþe fer and hend,
147 With god ds boun.
148 þer as it comyt in my mend
149 For to mete with lordys kynd
150 Boþe in fylde and toun.

169 I am comly castyn fro knottys of care,
170 I am lordly to leykyn lyt vndyr lynd,
171 I am semly to syttun syttys so sare,
172 I wyl pres me in pride!
173 Quan alle þe lordys of þis lond are gadered indere,
174 I am flour of hem alle withoutyn duere,
175 And ellys I were woxyn of blamys ryt here
176 But I be ryal in rayis forto ryde.

177 XVI. A! now I here
178 A belle ryngant ful nere,
179 3endyr in þe kyrk.
180 þeþer I wyl fare,
181 For I am in gret care
182 þer sum god ded to werk.

183 XVII. A synful kaytyf I am,
184 Synfully I aue wrowt blam
185 Be gret tyme of my lyfe.
186 Now, Cryst, ast þou me bowt;
187 Forgeue me þat blam þat I aue wrowt,
188 And make me sumquat blyþe!
189 For in þis werd may be none,
190 þat euer tok lyf wyth flesch and bone,
191 þat auyt so gret blam.
192 But I aue gras and help of þe,
193 I am lost fro þe so fre,
194 In helle to be be nam.
195 A prest now me most aue,
196 If I xal be saue
197 Ageynus Cryst of myth,
198 To telle hym my blam
199 þat I aue wrowt be nam,
200 þat is my thowt now tyth
201 To-day!
202 Jhesu, heuene-flowr,
203 Pot me from dolour,
204 And geue me gras þis o[u]re
205 A prest to auyn, I say!

206 XVIII. A! Blyssyd be þou ay,
207 þat þou com to-day
208 To here my dedly syn!
209 Quylys we are infer,
210 I wyl schrywe me here,
211 For now wil I begyn.
212 I aue led my lyf
213 In sorow and in stryf,
214 With cursydnessys and care;
215 3et is more in my th[o]wt,
216 Synnus I aue wrowt
217 Be my douter in lare.
218 And chyld che bar be me,
219 Quyk was fayr and fre
220 Boþe in body and fas,
221 And I myt neuer be fawe
222 Tyl we had hym sclawe--

225 My wyf þer che sclow

227 And þus in my lyf spend--

230 XIX. I wyl blely, my leue frend,
231 Do penawns boþe fer and hend,
232 To saue my sowle fro wrat.

233 XX. Heyl douter, louely of syt.
234 Heyl, louely leuende to-day,
235 Cryst þat is mytty in myt
236 Saue þe ermor and ay!

237 XXI. Lat be, my douter dere,
238 Lat be, louely in lere,
239 I aue forsakyn here
240 My blam and my syn.
241 My syn I aue forsake,
242 And to penawns I aue me take,
243 For þat wykkyd wrake
244 Now is time to blyn.
245 And þerfor I prey þe,
246 Sertys with herte fre,
247 þat þou mak not me
248 To falle in nomor blam!
249 Now wyl I don away
250 My tresorys rych and gay,
251 And traueylyn I wyl ay
252 For my wykyt fam.

253 XXII. Now my lyf wyl passe
254 Fro me þis i[l]k stonde,
255 I am smetyn in þe fas
256 With carful strokys and rownde.
257 Jhesu ful of gras
258 Forgeue [þe] þis trespas
259 þat þou ast don to me,
260 And geue þe gras to blyn
261 Of þat wykyd syn
262 Quylk þou ast don so fre.
263 My tyme comyst faste to
264 þat I xal pas 3ow fro,
265 In oþir plas to duelle.
266 In manus tuas, domine!
267 Jhesu haue mercy on me,
268 And saue my sowle fro helle.
