Book Arts at UMM

In 2005, The University of Maine at Machias, building on a number of its strengths, launched a Book Arts Concentration in its English Major. Since then, it has also expanded its Interdisciplinary Fine Arts program to include a Book Arts Concentration.

Both majors include, in addition to a core of classes in the major, courses in Book Arts, Papermaking, Periodical Production, Design, and a two-semester capstone experience.

Over the past couple years, thanks to a grant from the Stephen and Tabatha King Foundation and the generous support of several Maine book artists, we have opened the Dorward Hall Book Arts Studios, which include two Vandercook and one Chandler and Price Presses as well as state-of-the-art equipment for hand-made papermaking.

For further information on our new Book Arts Program, please contact Bernie Vinzani at 207-255-1279 or bzinzani@maine.edu, or Gerard NeCastro at 207-255-1293 or necastro@maine.edu.

The Binnacle, of course, is a partner of the Book Arts Program.
