Presented by UMM and Washington County Food & Fuel Alliance
Named one of MTV’s 11 Artists to Watch in 2012, Fun is a three-piece band hailing from New York City. The group was formed in 2008 by lead singer Nate Ruess, who is joined by Jack Antonoff on guitars and trumpet and Andrew Dost on vocals, piano, drums, and an array of other instruments. The band’s second album, Some Nights, is set to be released in February 2012 and features the hit single “We Are Young,” which was performed in a December 6, 2011 episode of the TV show “Glee.” That same night the song shot to #1 on iTunes. Described by their record label, Fueled by Ramen, as an “irresistible collection of freewheeling pop songcraft,” Fun has performed with the likes of Relient K, Paramore, Panic! at the Disco, and Janelle Monáe.
The Winter Frost concert will take place in the Performing Arts Center and doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15 for the public and free for UMM students. Tickets will be available at the door or in advance by calling the Office of Student Activities at 255-1245.

![]() "Painters, Players and Poets" (Photo from paintersplayersandpoets.com) MACHIAS, Maine – An art show that appeals to the senses of sight, sound, and touch will be on display at the University of Maine at Machias Art Galleries during the month of February. “Painters, Players & Poets” showcases the work of Maine’s finest musicians, visual artists, writers, and furniture makers. An opening reception is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, February 10. “Painters, Players and Poets” is a unique collaboration celebrating the talents of 48 Maine artists and artisans. Included in the project are 16 painters, 9 players/composers, 7 poets, and 16 chair makers. In 2009, writer/producer Con Fullam asked several well-known Maine composers and poets to identify a living Maine painter whose work inspired them, and to then choose a specific painting to interpret through poem or musical composition. The process was completed in July 2011 and the resulting exhibit has been traveling around the state ever since. Thanks to hand-crafted chairs and benches made by Maine’s finest furniture makers, people can sit comfortably as they view the interactive exhibit. Each station includes a chair, a piece of artwork, and an iPod with the corresponding song or poem. For more information on the exhibit and a complete list of participating artists, visit www.paintersplayersandpoets.com. The UMM Art Galleries, located on the first floor of Powers Hall, are open weekday afternoons from 1 to 5 p.m. or by appointment. For more information, call Art Gallery Director Bernie Vinzani at 255-1279.
