What does it take to be a teacher in the state of Maine? In addition to possessing a strong desire to work with kids and a passion for teaching, Maine teachers must meet specific certification requirements. The education faculty at UMM are dedicated to helping you meet all of your personal and professional goals. All students must pass the Praxis I (or PPST) for basic proficiency in reading, mathematics, and writing as well as the Praxis II for content proficiency. Minimum scores for certification in Maine are: Reading (176), Writing (175), and Mathematics (175).
Praxis Information Sessions
The education faculty at UMM routinely offer informational sessions about the Praxis tests. These sessions provide students with:

Classroom Management Workshop
UMM is hosting a workshop entitled "I Can Do It!" for pre-service teachers on Saturday, November 8, in the Portside Room of Kimball Hall. Students will learn tricks of the trade and receive a binder of information. The cost is $100 but is free to all Student Education Association of Maine (SEAM) members.
