Sandra Sylvester '64

Sandra earned an M.A. in Corporate and Political Communication with a professional certificate in writing at Fairfield University in Connecticut.  She retired from the printing and publishing business a couple of years ago and her novel, The South End, was recently published.

Mary McFadden '65

Mary McFadden, Class of 1965, was the lone attendee representing her class as it was honored for its 50th at the alumni meeting during Homecoming Weekend Saturday, October 3.  Mary retired in 2000 after teaching for 35 years, the last 31 at the Edmunds Consolidated School in Edmunds, a member of the Education in Unorganized Territory system.  For 49 years, she has been married to Howard McFadden, class of 1967, who was principal at ECS for 31 years and who served in the Maine House of Representatives for 8 years.  They have one son and daughter-in-law Chuck and Gail, one grandson Howie, one granddaughter Samantha, one step-grandson Mathew, and one step-granddaughter Mallorie.

James Chiaravalloti '65

James retired in 2004 after 35 years with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in West Palm Beach, Florida.  He still plays the guitar and sings and would love to hear from 1964 and 1965 classmates.

Eva Jane (Plourde) Gallant '67

Eva Jane is retired and lives in Saco, Maine.  She was in education for 17 years, owned her own business for a brief period, worked in banking for 12 years, and retired from insurance sales last April.  Eva is married and has two sons, one stepson, and seven grandchildren.

Richard M. Schlenker '68

Richard works as a science curriculum coordinator in Seoul, Korea.  He is retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and would like to hear from folks from the classes of 1966-1970.

Tom Brennan '75 paints in his Robbinston art studioTom Brennan '75

Tom Brennan retired after three decades as a Maine teacher and Principal in 2005. Earning his MPA (UMO 1987) and CAGS (UMO 1999), he concluded his career as a certified Maine Superintendent. He now paints full-time from his art studio in Robbinston. Portraits, landscapes, seascapes, and pet portraits are his specialties. Tom was Varsity Captain and ran all four years on UMM's Cross Country Team. Competing in numerous road races, fourteen marathons including the Boston Marathon in 1995, he still runs 40 miles every week. Tom's first art exhibit was in Kilburn Commons in May of 1975. Included were his realistic portraits of UMM Professors Red Lewis, Anna Chenowyth, Coach Schmidlin and President Buswell and several large paintings depicting student life at UMM in the 1970's. UMM classmates bought him his first easel in 1974 which he still uses today. Check out his most recent works and exhibits at

Karen L. Robinson '78

Karen recently expanded her business and opened an office in Tampa, Florida.  Both of  her sites (Clearwater and Tampa offer Swedish, spa, neuromuscular, and activated isolated stretching techniques.  Karen was married to to Richard A. Salisbury of Westbrook, Maine, on June 25, 2009. She will relocate to Maine's coastal area in the spring of 2010 and is looking forward to attending the annual Mac Sennett Lobster Feed in August!

Lucy Ann Baker '79

For the past 12 years, Lucy has spent summer vacations in Stavanger, Norway, and has also traveled to Cyprus, Turkey, Denmark, and Amsterdam.  She has a home in Bulacan, Philippines, that she visits every other year.  Lucy has been a 5th grade teacher at Beatrice Rafferty School on the Passamaquoddy Reservation in Perry since 1980.  She loves the Native American children she teaches and has learned much from them.  Lucy has been at the school so long that she has taught many of her students' parents.  She appreciates her unique situation and feels she is home with her people.

Stephen Treat '85

Stephen Treat has been named Controller of International Paper's Ticonderoga Paper Mill located in the Adirondack region of upstate New York.  His responsibilities include accounting, budgeting, purchasing, and mill security.  He and his wife, Jackie, recently relocated from Memphis, Tennessee, to Queensbury New York.

Kenneth W. Fredette '87

Governor Baldacci recently recommended Kenneth for a position on the Maine Human Rights Commission.  The recommendation was unanimously approved by the legislature's Judiciary Committee and is awaiting confirmation by the Maine Senate.  The Maine Human Rights Commission is the state agency charged with the responsibility of enforcing Maine's anti-discrimination laws.  Kenneth is a lawyer in private practice with offices in Newport.  He also serves a a major in the judge advocate general section of the Maine Air National Guard.

Paul W. Vienneau '88

After graduating from UMM, Paul taught junior high school in Eastport, Maine for a several years.  In 1991 he took a full time position with the U.S. Immigration Service and was stationed in Montreal for over 10 years.  He is now an officer with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, stationed in Bangor, Maine.  In 1991 he married the former Virginie Jangot of Paris, France, who was his pen-pal for many years.  They have two sons, Ryan 16, and Ethan 13.  The family resides in Milford, Maine.

Justin Kristan '90

Justin is Transportation Planner for the Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Council of Governments and lives in Fargo, ND.  He was married in June, 2007, to a Fargo native.  The couple honeymooned in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Donnette Hill Walto '92

Donnette is a certified Kripalu yoga teacher and a writer living in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  She is an active member of the International Community School (ICS) where whe teaches both adult and childrens' yoga.  Donnette's husband Dennis Walto is the Regional Director of Save the Children US, covering the continent of Africa.  Their daughters, Lalibela and Sahara, attend ICS and the family has lived overseas on and off since 1992.

Eric and Tammy Carlson (both alums) recently moved from Orlando to Clermont, Florida.  Eric works at the Omni Orlando Resort at ChampionsGate as the golf and corporate sales manager and Tammy is an office manager for a commercial landscape company, TruScape, in Winter Garden.

Tim Heavrin '94

Tim is still working in Arizona as a Department of Corrections officer, where he has been awarded Uniformed Employee of the Month for November and Uniformed Employee of the Quarter.  Tim keeps fit through healthy living, logging miles on his bike and hiking.  Tim has been married to the love of his life for eighteen years and recently added a new grandson born to his eldest step-son. Tim recently lost his father, and credits his influence in his graduation from UMM.  Tim sends his warmest regards to all of his UMM family.

Paul Sylvain '94

Paul has been an adjudications officer for the Department of Homeland Securtiy/U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) in Boston since July 2001.  In March of 2009 he accepted a position as a senior immigration services officer/course developer-instructor at the USCIS Academy Training Center in Dallas, Texas.  In September 2010, he was selected for a position as the supervisory immigration services officer at the USCIS Manchester, NH Field Office.  Paul, his wife, Nola, and their two cats, Mindy and Cocoa Moe, now make their home in Merrimack, New Hampshire.

Keith Williams '94

Keith recently took a job as an Environmental Conservation Police Officer for the State of Connecticut where he is attending the Police Academy. He and wife, Kendra Williams '94, relocated from Cape Cod to Connecticut in the fall of 2008.

Tammy Carlson '95

Jason lives on Cape Cod with his wife, Dasha, and their son, Nicholas Thomas.


Christopher Beal '96

Christopher is married with four children and works as a firefighter/emt for the Barnstable Fire Department on Cape Cod.  He is also works with FEMA as Resue Specialist with the Urban Search and Rescue Massachusetts Task Force 1.

Derek Ibarguen '97

Derek Ibarguen '97, has been selected as the ranger for the Pisgah District of the Pisgah National Forest, located in North Carolina. As ranger, Ibarguen will manage Forest Service operations in the Pisgah District , encompassing close to 160,000 acres. Congratulations Derek!

Kim Kupperman '97

Kim Dana Kupperman is the recipient of the 2009 Katharine Nason Bakeless Prize in Nonfiction, awarded by Middlebury College's Bread Loaf Program.  Sue Halpern was the judge.  The book, tentatively title I Just Lately Started Buying Wings, will be published by Graywolf Press in 2010.

Kimberly Wescott '97

Kimberly graduated Kimberly Wescott-Huttman and now goes by Wescott. She moved to Texas, received her master's in education, and is working for the family firm while earning her doctorate in education.

Jennifer Cole '98 married EJ Hikel in May of 2008.  The couple recently had a daughter, Alexandra (Lexi) Marie Hikel, born March 13, 2009.

Matt Williams '98

Matt Williams is Head of Compliance at a leading UK Asset Management Company.  Matt is married and is also the manager of the North Wales under-18 soccer team and Castell Alun Men's Soccer team that plays in the Welsh soccer league.

Melissa is Program Director for the Town of Norwood Recreation Department.  She completed her Master's in Recreation Management at Springfield College and was recently married.

Jim Kroon '00

Jim Kroon and Lori Brown '00 were married in 2004.  Lori has been working at Delaware State University since 2002 as a fisheries research technician.  Jim has been working at the Delaware Department of Agriculture since 2003 as the survey coordinator for a USDA exotic pest program.  Jim has recently received his Master's Degree in Geographic Information Systems from Penn State.  Congratulations Jimmy!

Reid Albee '01

Reid has been working at Burgess Computer in Bath, Maine, for the past year as a remote systems engineer and recently received his Microsoft Certified Professional certification..  His son Jacob is a sales associate at U.S. Cellular in Bangor.  Reid is proud to announce that his daughter, Jessica Lynn Albee, graduated from Humboldt State in Arcata, Calif. on May 15th, with a B.A. in Fine Arts.  Jessica graduated with high honors and an overall GPA of 3.98.

Michael Colucci '01

Mike lives in Topsham and works as a supervisor of a team of credit analysts.  He recently wrote and self-published a novel, "Bad Little Fall", that is loosely based on his time at UMM as an RA.  His book is available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and

Jason is teaching U.S. and World History at Essex Agricultural and Technical High School in Hathorne, MA.  He lives in Salem, MA, and spends time enjoying local history, attending the theater in Boston, and working for his synagogue.

Tiffany (Willey) Vencile '02

Tiffany and Ken Vencile '92 are proud to announce the birth of their first daughter, Autumn Loria Vencile, in November of 2010.  Ken is a high school biology teacher at Camden Regional High School and Tiffany is a licensed massage therapist.  The two currently reside in Waldoboro, Maine


Sara Farmer '03

After graduating from UMM, Sara continued her education at University of Maine at Augusta where she earned an AS in Criminal Justice.  She hoped to complete her BS in Forensic Investigation in May, 2009, at Mountain State University in Beckley, West Virginia.

Michaela is in her fourth year of vet school at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine.  She will graduate in 2010 and hopes to then practice small animal medicine.

Kenrick Liburd '05

Kenrick Liburd, a native of London, England, who graduated from UMM with a degree in business,  recently accepted a position at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee, coaching women's basketball and women's volleyball for the Crusaders.  He will also teach business classes.  The move to Tennessee Temple reunites Kenrick with his former University of Maine at Machias basketball coach Randy Lee, who in the spring of 2009 became the men's basketball coach for the Crusaders.

Stephanie (Curcione) Miller '05

Stephanie and Kenny Miller, class of '06, were married in 2009.  They now have a two month old son.

Ashley (Choiniere) Franklin '05

Ashley married in June 2009.  She is currently attending the University of Maryland, College Park, where she received her MS in Animal Science in December 2008.  She is now working towards a Ph.D. in Animal Science.

Howard Gray '06

Howard completed his Master's in Exercise Physiology at East Tennessee State University last year and now works as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for Crystal Palace Footbal Club (soccer) in London.  He is planning to visit Machias in May or June of 2010 and would love to get in touch with old friends.

Brice Hellstrom '06 and Julie (Strauss) Hellstrom '06

Brice Hellstrom and Julie Strauss, both graduates of the Class of 2006, got married on December 31, 2008 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Several UMM alumni attended the wedding.  The couple now resides in Manchester, Connecticut.

Megan Hendricks '06

While attending UMM, Megan was a Resdient Assistant and a proud member of the Cross Country team.  Since graduating Megan has continued her education, going on to become an Occupational Therapist, licensed in April of 2010.  Megan now resides in Bakersfield, California and works for Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital as an Occupational Therapist.  She continues to develop her love for running and has competed in five marathons since graduating, Columbus, Cleveland, Detroit, Boston and Long Beach.  Megan says she is glad to have attended UMM, the staff and people there inspired me to go far!  Best wishes Megan, and keep running!

Erin O'Callahan '06

Erin shared exciting news about her engagement to Joshua Hoak, with a wedding planned for August of 2013. UMM will be well represented at the wedding, with four alumns in the wedding party.  Both Erin and Joshua played on the Clipper Soccer teams.  Erin is currently working toward her Master's in Curriculum and Instruction at Lesley University. 



Katie Hartwig '07

Katie Hartwig is currently employed in the scholarship internship program for the Environmental Science Department Sea Turtle Research Project at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida.  Katie graduated from UMM with a major in Marine Biology and a minor in Environmental Studies.


Caitlin Heller '08

Caitlin recently moved to Pulaski, Tennessee, an hour from Nashville.  She is a third grade teacher and her boyfriend is an admissions counselor at Martin Methodist College.  Caitlin thinks of UMM and Maine often and hopes to visit soon!

Jessica Lysick '08

Jessica recently married and is now Jessica Hoffman.  Jessica has recently found employment in her field of study as a wet chem lab tech working with water and soil samples.  She is employed by Spectrum Analytical Inc., in Agawam, MA.

Joscelyn Lauren '08

Joscelyn is living in Westlake Village, California.  She attends National University and plans to work in the field of school psychology.  Joscelyn graduated with honors from the Behavioral Science Program at UMM.  She calls herself a "late bloomer", but feels that it's never too late to earn a degree and pursue your dreams.

Justin Proctor '08

Justin has moved to Ithaca, New York, where he is working for Cornell University's "Golondrinas de Las Amreicas" program, a project focused on exploring the breeding habits of several swallow species throughout the Western Hemisphere.  He is currently beginning a field season in Northern Argentina and will progress down to the Patagonia region by Christmas time.  Justin plans on beginning a Master's thesis through Cornell in 2011.  He has the following to say to all of his classmates:  "may the road rise to meet you, and may the wind be always at your back, Best Wishes, Justin"

Allen Lennox Jr.

Allen is now the assistant event manager at Gillette Stadium, in Foxborough, MA.  Allen works very closely with the New England Patriots and the New England Revolution, and was able to travel with the Patriots to 2012 Super Bowl.  Allen also assists the event manager for Boston College.

Allen will be travelling to South Africa in March of 2012, with the New England Revolution's under 17 squad.  Safe journeys Allen, and keep us posted.
