Affordable Care Act Forum to be Held at UMM on Oct. 24
MACHIAS, Maine – A public forum on the Affordable Care Act will be held at the University of Maine at Machias on Thursday, October 24, at 6 p.m. in room 102 of the Science Building. “Affordable Care Act: Make it Work for You” is being co-sponsored by Porter Memorial Library and UMM’s Psychology and Community Studies program.
Guest speakers will include Deidre DeRoche, outreach and education specialist at Maine Community Health Options, and Deb Shields, outreach and enrollment coordinator at Eastport Health Care.
DeRoche, who has more than 20 years of experience in the health care industry, will give a brief overview of the Affordable Care Act and demonstrate how Maine Community Health Options will partner with Maine people, businesses, and health professionals to provide affordable, high-quality health benefits.
Shields, a certified ACA application counselor, will focus her presentation on the new health insurance marketplace, a web-based resource that will provide information about health insurance and the new plan options and costs available under the Affordable Care Act. She will provide basic information describing the changes in health care insurance as a result of the Affordable Care legislation, and will help those who attend the event to understand the new health insurance options and qualification requirements.
The presentations will be followed by a question-and-answer period.
The event is free and open to the public, and will also be streamed live on the Internet at www.machias.edu/umm-live. For more information, contact Meghan Duff, associate professor of psychology, at 255-1227 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
