Lubec Parcel Map
Kristin Menard, Spring 2006
My project was done for Dr. Hostert. There is an area of land located in Lubec, Maine which the University of Maine at Machias (UMM) has possession of. The points of this parcel needed to be recorded. In my project I went out and took these points and then attached them to an aerial photo along with another map of the town. I, Kristin Menard, used a Garmen handheld unit to get the GPS points in Lubec. I went out to the site which was located behind the high school in Lubec. After getting the data points I came back to the GIS lab at UMM to put them on the computer. I then uploaded the points and attached them to aerial and regular maps. The regular map had the points in Lubec along with an indicator map of where in Maine it is located. I used data from the Maine GIS (websitehttp://apollo.ogis.state.me.us/) to put the points on a map of the Washington County. I went to the same website and found an aerial map to attach the GPS points to. This allowed the overall town to be looked at so you can see what kind of area the site was at in. It also helped show that this site did not have houses located within it and there are mostly woods in the parcel. The GPS points were not noted for their accuracy when using the Garmen handheld unit for GPS 12XL. The layers taken from the Maine GIS website were in the scale of 1:24,000. The resolution of the aerial photo is about 10 meters.
