Bird Call Survey Site
Katie Hartwig, Spring 2006
This map was generated for use as a teaching tool for Dr. Gayle Kraus's Ornithology class at the University of Maine at Machias. The map focuses on Gardner Lake Road and the surrounding area, locating GPS points of bird survey sites along the road. At these locations, Dr. Kraus and others surveyed bird calls for three minute time intervals, recording all bird species that were heard during this time. Birds heard outside the time interval while still at the survey point were duly noted. These species are indicated by a negative number in the attribute table. Clicking on each survey point reveals a table each bird species heard while at that site and the number of times heard. Further clicking directs the user to a website containing information about each species, including a bird call.
