National Accreditation
Since 1989 the UMM Recreation Management program has been recognized with national accreditation. UMM has the only accredited program in Maine, and it is only one of four in New England. In fact, nationwide there are only approximately 100 colleges which have accredited programs.
The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) offers this accreditation through the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. More information about national accreditation and the academic standards it requires can be found through the NRPA web site (nrpa.org). The UMM accreditation must be renewed every five years.
Graduating from an accredited program allows a person to qualify for Certified Park and Recreation Professional status immediately after graduation. In Maine there are 51 professionals participating in the certification program. Four of those are graduates of the UMM Recreation Management Program.
